Fed: Costello says lift in export volumes encouraging
CANBERRA, April 4 AAP - The lift in export volumes is encouraging, Treasurer Peter Costello says.
Figures released yesterday showed exports grew by 10 per cent, or $1.5 billion, to
$16.8 billion in February - pushing the trade deficit down to a four-year low.
"In the second half of last year, volumes were a bit disappointing," Mr Costello told reporters.
"It was taking some time before the investment took place to lift capacity.
"We saw in the figures that were released yesterday a lift in volumes - very very welcome,
but I'd like to see that continue for some time."
