NSW: Police charge five youths over school rugby brawl

SYDNEY, Aug 10 AAP - Police have charged five teenagers over a violent brawl following
a high school rugby league match in the NSW Hunter Valley.

The fight involved more than 30 players spectators and officials after a game between
Maitland-based All Saints College and Mt Druitt-based Chifley High School last month.

One teenager was taken to hospital with facial injuries after the brawl at Baddley
Oval in south Cessnock.

Police today said they had charged five students from the Mt Druitt school, and were
considering laying charges against two more 17-year-old males.

The students, three aged 18, and two aged 17, have been charged with a total of 16
offences including affray, assault, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, police
said.

They have been bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Three other students from Chifley High School, and one from All Saints College have
been issued warnings, police said.

Police will continue to investigate the matter alongside the NSW Rugby League and the
NSW Education Department.
